The whole point of dSLR astrophotography is to use what you have, since even the most basic CCD makes the very best dSLR look like it's shooting Tri-X Pan. With the recently-acquired Nikon I've only shot the night sky with my old 24mm f/2.8 AI (which I always loved when shooting film) so far. But the coma on that lens is extremely prominent, and the results have disappointed.
